I grew up always drawing sketching painting. I remember dressing up as an artist for career day in second grade. When I got home my mother scolded me for being irresponsible, "you cannot make a living as an artist" she repeated in her strict Russian tone. That is the the day I put my dream away, assuming she was right and it was unthinkable to question your parents in my culture. Years passed and in my mid twenties I got into the habit of doodling on anything I could get my hands on. One morning after slipping a thoughtful note with a cheery doodle into my boyfriends pocket he confronted me. "Why don't you draw again babe?" He repeated this question on several more occasions until I stopped making excuses, picked up a paintbrush and started on the most amazing adventure of my life. "I did not know my hands could do this" I didn't know I could paint a person or better yet someone I know using a photograph.

I made the decision to cut my hours at my corporate bank operations job at Wells Fargo to pursue my passion and create my legacy. I've completed several commissioned art portraits, various paintings and signs. My main focus has been harvesting old growth wood from old homes during the demolition process. I cut and sand the wood down to my desired sizes for my wooden canvases and paint my subjects using oil stain of various colors. For blues and greens I use acrylic paint since that is not available as a stain. The signs range from rustic/vintage with nail holes and old hinges to modern/retro and in between.

The energy the pieces have is unlike any other, they feel almost as if they're alive, if the centuries old wood used as the canvas could speak I'm sure it would tell some interesting stories. I LOVE creating these real life memories for others, I would be honored to help capture that moment for you.
