Woodturning has been part of my life for more than 37 years. I love the entire process from finding the perfect piece of wood all the way through to the final coat of finish. I harvest much of the wood myself using a chainsaw. Buckthorn (yes, the invasive species!) is one of my favorite woods. Otherwise, I harvest wood that other people have cut down or repurpose scraps that are too small for others to use, but are perfect for my projects. Our woodpile can also be an incredible source of wood, inspiration and ideas.

I turn items for personal use, around the kitchen, garden decorations, accents for the home and other handmade gifts.

Woodturning is a form of woodworking and is the process of spinning a piece of wood on a lathe and shaping it with a hand held tool. There are two types of turning - spindle turning and faceplate turning. Spindle turning is holding the wood parallel to the bed of the lathe while shaping it. In faceplate turning the wood is held perpendicular to the lathe bed.
