Custom Reception Desks

Desks here come in straight, L-shaped and radius (curved) layouts, plus small salon and shop counters, host stands and podiums. Materials range from reclaimed barn wood and steel to walnut with stainless steel or granite, white oak with marble, concrete, shou sugi ban (charred wood), acrylic, and plate steel topped with a live-edge maple slab. Several listings are designed for restaurants, salons and retail, and one shows a Baltic birch desk with a carved logo.

What sets the price

A listing's price is usually a starting point. Half of the listings here are priced between about $2,000 and $6,600, with a median near $4,100, and one in ten is priced above $9,400. Length and shape, the materials, a stone or metal top, built-in storage, lighting and wire management set the price of a commission.

Before you start

• A floor plan showing the desk's footprint and where visitors approach it.
• How many people work behind it, sitting or standing, and the equipment it holds, such as monitors, phones, printers and card readers.
• Where power and data come in, from the floor or a wall.
• Storage needs: drawers, files, a lockable cabinet.
• Whether you need a lower, accessible counter section.
• Your logo, brand colors and finish samples.
• The delivery route (door widths, elevators, stairs) and your opening or move-in date.

Describe the desk with the materials, size, budget and date you have in mind, and makers who do this work send proposals.
