This solid maple media cabinet was built from an architect's drawings for a newly renovated condo in Warren, Vermont. The plan called for an antique cupboard for media equipment and storage, but nothing suitable could be found, so we built this and applied a distressed finish to give the piece an antique look. A bottom coat of blue paint was applied, followed by a glaze coat which made the top coat of red paint crackle. We then further distressed the piece by sanding down the corners and areas that would be prone to high wear, to expose the base layers. Inside, there is a natural finish and adjustable shelves as well as one solid maple drawer made with dovetail joinery and mounted on soft-close, hidden drawer slides. The top is one inch thick solid maple and the panels are all custom milled tongue and groove maple. The rear of the unit has two slots to allow for air circulation, preventing over heating of stereo equipment, and for power cord access.
