One Realistic Glass Bing Cherry Sculpture, Hand Blown and Life-Sized

Each realistic glass red cherry sculpture is about an inch wide. I form them by melting colored glass rods in the flame of a torch. I build the cherry directly on to a piece of pure copper wire, which becomes the stem. I use heat, surface tension, gravity and a couple of basic tools to make the cherry shape, so no two are every exactly alike. Like a real cherry, your sculpture will have a speckled surface and a little flower scar "belly button" at the base. I achieve the variations in the surface color by melting on as many as 5 different shades of powdered glass. Because I don't use paint, the color will never fade or rub off.

Almost nothing in nature is completely round, smooth or even, so I avoid making my glass fruit and leaves too perfectly. I put on little splotches and speckles, make them a tidbit lopsided, and add other small imperfections so that each berry or leaf is unique. This makes them look much more lifelike.

These glass berries are lifelike enough to fool adults at first glance. Never display your glass berries where they could be confused with real fruit. Never put them in your mouth, even for fun, or allow anyone else to do so. Make sure to keep them out of the reach of children of any age.
