This Sea Chest was commissioned by a local retired USAF Senior Master Sergeant. His wife, a Chief Master Sergeant, was retiring, and this was his retirement gift to her! We spent a lot of time in my shop discussing details (he lives very close), and he saw the old Mahogany door that I had picked up recently with intentions of taking it apart and using the wood for other projects. Well, this was the project! I had enough Mahogany to build the box from that old door, but had to go out and buy new for the top. It's all trimmed in White Ash that grew right here at BlackWater! The insignia on the front (USAF CMSGT) was from a piece of beautifully spalted BlackWater Hackberry that I sent to a friend in CT who did CNC machining. Inside the chest is a rail that supports a "shadow box" that will contain her folded flag, medals, insignia, etc. (more photos to come!) The walls are lined with cedar to protect her uniforms and whatever else she wants to fill it with! The Chief had her retirement ceremony just last night, and my client promised to send me more photos! I can't wait to see them and share them on CustomMade!

For Tissue box coverIt was great working with Mark on this project -- he got the exact wood I asked for, communicated throughout the project, completed it quickly and shipped it right away. It looks great, and I am thinking about how we can work together on another project soon!!
