"Matilda" Style Box
This box is my version of the chocolate box in the movie "Matilda". It's not an exact copy, but the gold and silver carving patterns are very close to the movie box. This is the first box pictured. I also have made several custom variations. Pick one of those, or give me your ideas for a custom design. I have some variations of this box from which you can choose. The original box is made with black walnut and embellished with gold-painted carvings and brass feet. The "Giles" box is in cherry with V carvings unpainted and antique brass feet - my personal favorite. The box with oak leaves and acorns carvings is hickory, and was done per specific customer request of that pattern. Boxes can be personalized with names, initials, or short phrases under the lid. What ideas do you have to personalize your box? I would love to discuss them with you. Boxes are about 10" long, 7.5" wide, and 5" tall not including feet. Custom sizes are possible. Price starts at $299 and varies depending upon options. The first box with gold and silver is $329.

"Digital and traditional design and woodworking"
I've been a woodworker since I was a kid in my dad's shop. Over the years I have built many items of furniture and cabinets for myself and family members, adding to my skills and suite of tools to enable me to do more intricate and complex projects. I added a CNC router to my tools a while back, which has enabled me to expand my shop's capabilities. In fact, I have won my CNC manufacturer's nationwide contest for woodworking two years in a row.
About five years ago, I opened carveshop.com and started taking on specialty projects. I really enjoy making custom and personalized items, and taking on new and exciting projects that challenge me and expand my skills.

As my first project requested on CustomMade, I asked for a chocolate box similar to the one featured in the movie, "Matilda." Dick made the process extremely fluid and I am incredibly happy with the result. I would easily recommend Dick for the following reasons:
1). Communicative & Dependable: Because I requested this project as a Christmas gift, I thought getting it done on time would be stressful. This was not the case at all. Throughout the entire process, Dick always responded in less than a day and was patient and caring about accommodating my needs, no matter how detailed they were.
2). Knowledgeable: He was able to recommend perfect materials needed to make the box look like the picture I provided. The box I wanted was made of a nice wood with elaborate painting on it. I know nothing about wood. Or paint. Or stain. Or detailing. Nothing. That being said, I needed to trust him to choose good quality materials based on his level of expertise. I now have received the box in the mail today and am extremely happy with the result. It is EXACTLY what I had in mind and I could not be more pleased.
3). Attention to Detail: The designs on the box are detailed and precise. The painting is not sloppy and it does not look like it was rushed at all.
4). Accommodating: Simply provide a picture of what you want and he can make it. He not only works hard to apply the things you want, but also executes on them well.
5). Timeliness: Received the box within 4 days of my final payment.In all honesty, I was a tad skeptical of this site and its makers when I first started my "Matilda" box project. But because of Dick and his skill level, professionalism, positive attitude, and willingness to accommodate, I will most definitely recommend Dick to everyone I know and also request services from him should I need something else done (assuming he wants to work with me again too :)).
Ecstatic about the result and cannot WAIT to gift it for Christmas.

For "Matilda" Style Box5.0I was able to easily communicate my ideas for customization and received the box exactly as I requested in a very quick turnaround. It was much larger than I expected (my own error as I never actually looked at the size or asked) but in a good way, it is very substantial and super cool, not to mention very beautiful. I asked to have it unfinished and although I'll likely end up playing around with different finishes, I am tempted to leave it unfinished because the black walnut is so pretty. This is something so unique and specially crafted that I can pass it down to my kids and they can do the same; I've never had a piece of furniture or item like that before, so it is extra special. Thank you!
