Custom Kitchen Island

This was a custom kitchen island that the client had very unique ideas for. First on the list was the bar-type flap that connects the island to the existing countertop. They wanted the option of being able to close up the top and roll the piece out of the way. The flap is long grain construction with bookmatched live edge sides. Second on the list, was the endgrain top that is the focus of the piece. They wanted something unique that tied in all of the other types of wood and colors of their kitchen. When they said they wanted a top that had all different types of wood, in a random pattern of different sized blocks, it was a challenge we gladly accepted. The top contains walnut, cherry, maple, oak, jatoba and bloodwood accents. The base was a custom configuration based on the clients needs and after a few design changes and exchanges of ideas it fits perfectly in the space. The base is made out of solid wood parts painted to match the existing cabinetry. All of the hardware is heavy duty stainless steel including the full-extension drawer slides, the hidden SOS hinges on the flap and the super sturdy locking casters.
