I make many different boxes. These particular boxes are for recipe cards. Can be made any size with dividers, different woods, inlaid and/or wood burned designs and text. Top wood: Choose Oak, Cherry, Black Walnut Inlay around top: Choose No thanks, Oak, Cherry, Black Walnut Interior wood : Choose Oak, Cherry, Black Walnut Exterior wood: Choose Oak, Cherry, Black Walnut Choose a singlewide or doublewide size Size : For 4, 6, or 8 inches of 3x5 inch cards For 4, 6, or 8 inches of 4x6 inch cards Doublewide for 4, 6, or 8 inches of 3x5 inch cards Doublewide for 4, 6, or 8 inches of 4x6 inch cards Corner and edge detail: Choose Rounded or square Hinge option Choose wood or metal Lock option Choose no or yes Latch option Choose qty 0-2 Velour insert for inside top (choose yes or no, and tell me the color) Text engraved by hand If Yes please enter the text you want here Tell me the Text font and size and location (I can put your text anywhere inside or outside of the box. Inlaid letters 1 to 2 inch letters in "Lucida Calligraphy" text font Please tell me what woods you would like for the letters (Oak, Black Walnut or Cherry) Choose a contrasting wood to the one you choose for the top. Tell me where you want the inlaid Text Image to be woodburned/engraved on top If you choose to use your own image, photo, or artwork, Woodburning of images are generally $25-$150 and are priced after review of the image and the detail required. It took me a couple of months researching the web before I settled on Glenn as the choice for this project. I saw one of his fly-fishing rod boxes and it was a sealed deal. This is classic old-world workmanship not readily found just anywhere. In the end, it's a one-of-a-kind family heirloom now and the recipient couldn't be happier. It has taken me a long while to think of suitably congratulatory praise for Glenn Nief and the magnificent object of Art he has created for my family. I will do my best to express it in words but it is really pictures that would be needed to illustrate all the features of the piece. And even they fail to give a full impression to the beholder.
The work is a Bible Box and a worthy repository of a Book which has been in our family for over 150 years. It is shaped like a cube constructed with multiple varieties of wood which give the object a warm glow that calls for touch. The inlaid inscriptions on the top announce the Holy Book and the lineage names for the families which have held the Bible in their care over generations are inscribed. The lid opens to reveal engravings of the coat of arms of my home region (Alsace, France) and that of my wife's (Texas, USA) above words explaining that the box was my present to my spouse on the occasion of Christmas. The back-hinge is all wood and the front panel can be swung down to slide smoothly the unusually large Book out of the case without risking any damage. An unexpected compartment in the bottom holds ancient family papers, photos and daguerreotypes and the box can be locked with an ornate key for protection. The bottom of the box shows worthily the signature of the Artist.
I tried my best above to communicate the beauty of the receptacle and I am so very grateful to Glenn Nief for having created a heirloom which will amaze generations to come.
