Reclaimed Maple Cutting Board

$50

One day, when I was driving home from work, I noticed a builder throwing out old cabinets to the curb. I stopped and asked if I could have the old cabinet doors. He said sure and… come to find out, the old grungy looking doors turned out to be made of gorgeous maple! I was able to plane them down, get them back to beautiful, and glue them up to make these awesome long grain cutting boards. They have your choice of finish, either mineral oil or salad bowl finish.

Hey there! I’m Jerry Channell, and I’m guessing that most people who come to a site like custommade are not your average IKEA shoppers. Now, don’t get me wrong; I'm not above IKEA! Honestly, I have an IKEA shelf at my house right now but, here’s the kicker, who doesn’t? Right? That’s why you’re here. You want something that can be unique to you. Something custom to your likes, ideas, and preferences not those of the marketplace average.

That’s why I love what I do. I started building things in my uncle’s basement woodshop when I was little. Back then it was simple boxes and random scrap boards nailed together. But, in high school I decided that I wanted to learn how to build furniture so, I built an Adirondack chair for my mom for Christmas. Now, that chair was honestly horrible (of course momma loved it) but, it was a starting point. In college (University of Georgia – Go Dawgs!), I got a job at a custom cabinet shop where I learned woodworking. I learned how to make sure that you had measurements down to the 32nd of an inch in order for a joint to fit perfectly. I learned how to design unique, quality cabinets that fit people's ideas and personalities. And, I learned how to be a good carpenter. After working for a high end furniture store, I learned so much about creative designs and how to fuse that with quality. Because of the experiences, I love working with reclaimed wood. I love working with things that people would otherwise think is trash but I see as something with potential. BUT, I also love the other side of the spectrum. I like building quality furniture with good quality wood that is fresh from the lumber yard. I guess it just boils down to what YOU want the end product to be! What I love is the process.

Creativity, woodworking, design…it's my passion. But, one day, I hope to build a company that not only provides quality craftsmanship but also molds and develops people and economies. I hope to build this company into one that provides jobs for people in places where jobs don’t exist. I hope to teach people a skill, a trade, give them a way to provide for their family. I hope to one day use woodworking as a way to change the world.

So there you are. I love building things. I love making a difference in people’s lives. Osleeper Designs is just the beginning of somehow weaving those two things together. Making a difference by doing things well, by taking pride in what you do, and by humbly beginning to leave a legacy. Will you help us here at Osleeper Designs? Let’s build some cool stuff that you’re excited about, stuff that you help design, and stuff that will one day help leave a legacy.

Can't wait to hear from you!
