A pet project of mine, the idea for this table comes from a frustration with the convention in fine furniture and cabinetry making of hiding connection points and end grain. Not only can these moments of exposed connection points and end grain become surface features, but also offer an honest explanation of the function each member serves in composing the system of forces that hold the object together, as well as broadcasting, without apology, their own material truth. Salvaged 19th century barnwood is set against cabinet grade birch ply calling out the conventions of material value. Steel "edge banding" in the center shelf turns a surface application into a structural detail. A steel frame acts as armature for the single butt joint that holds the conviction of the piece.

I am Southern Illinois based designer and custom builder with 18 years experience in metal fabrications, carpentry and custom installations. My background in both sculpture and architecture have helped in developing the capacity to recognize the spatial implications and conceptual potency of the objects with which we interact daily.
I have a particular interest in objects and installations that produce spatial relationships between users, program shifts and versatility, and help the owner/occupant express themselves through the act of dwelling.
I believe in the intuitions of my clients, and work to maintain an open dialogue and a collaborative spirit. As such, I often work in association with area design/build groups and local craftspeople in order to broaden my capacity to serve my clients' interests.
