Custom Skylight Window Cover–Construction & Installation

$550

I was contracted to custom build a skylight window covering for a finished attic space. The client wanted something rustic using reclaimed lumber that was light blocking and easy to open and close. My design inspiration was an old barn door with a similar sliding track. The window was made from reclaimed lumber and whitewashed to retain a natural aged look. The sliding device was fashioned from pipes and handmade sliders. It was then painted using 3 different colors to give it an aged rusty look. The most difficult part was the installation. Precise measurements were required to work around a ceiling beam and to ensure minimal light leakage around the cover. It wasn't very heavy but had to be mounted to the studs for a secure fit. We were both very pleased with the final result.

About Me
Twenty-five years ago we instantly fell in love with a 100-year-old farmhouse. We reveled in its unique architecture, old world craftsmanship and a chance to preserve history. All through the years since then it became the ultimate outlet to perfect both my artistic and carpentry skills.

About My Business
My disdain for mass-produced furnishings lead me to the creation of many unique custom-made pieces. By combining a passion for historical materials with modern design, I was able to preserve a bit of the past into the future. Old barn wood was transformed into tables, bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinets and anything else I could apply my artistry to. Broken Mexican tile was fashioned into beautiful mosaic inlays. Collected stones, shells and driftwood were melded with old growth wood to recreate natural beauty.

About You
If you share my love for objects from the past, have specific custom needs, along with an appreciation for unique handcrafted objects let me help you bring something special into your home.
