Design And Fabrication Of Large Motorized Curtain
In this project, we worked with a residential client to design and fabricate a 22' wide. 16' tall motorized curtain for their home and a custom metal cornice with hand-painted patina. The curtain remediated a heat issue caused by the number of windows and their Western exposure, while also offering UV protection for their fine art objects. The first image shows a visualization that the client commissioned prior to approval of the project. The other two photos show a wide view of the project and a view from the mezzanine level. The fabric is a linen blend from Clarke and Clarke, lined and hand-interlocked with a silky blackout material. We motorized the project using a product from Somfy Systems. Installation was provided by a licensed drapery installation contractor and was not part of the scope of Joona's services.

At Joona, our custom drapery and upholstery services feature old-world, hand-finished detailing, couture sewing, fabric painting and dyeing, fabric transformation, repair, and reweaving and boundlessly creative design. We do not use chemical flame retardants in our upholstery products, choosing to use flame retardant-free latex cushioning with a wool felt flame barrier instead.
