We designed the Abstract Organic Expressionism In Furniture™ Walnut Coffee Table with Matching End Tables to work as a group and express unity between them, while utilizing carving details to create individualism between them. The use of old stock from naturally downed trees is very important in our production. We utilize the naturally occurring figures and grain characteristics of the wood including what would have been considered to others as non-usable portion of the tree such as the sapwood, areas of defects, etc. in the overall layout and production. The carvings on the tables relate to the naturally occurring bark and branch areas of the tree. These pieces will be a talking point in any home or place of business. Materials used: Locally naturally downed walnut (Juglans nigra) solids and custom sawed veneer from both the downed tree as well as nearly 30 years of collecting typical non-usable highly figured pieces of walnut. Construction process: Solid walnut for frames and legs, hand cut mortise and tenons, ship-lap, and sliding dovetails for the frames, specially sawed 1/8" veneer for the tops. The tops of the two end tables are essentially book matched veneer placement with some variances while the top of the coffee table has a book matched placement of veneers similar to that used for the end tables, thereby creating a sense of unity between the three pieces. Size: Coffee table 61" length 22"width 20" tall; End tables 30" length 22 1/4" width 24" tall

About Us
At Art in Furniture by Schuettinger, we create custom wood furniture and also a focus on multiple art movement expressions in furniture by "painting" with wood using traditional and meticulous hand-craftsmanship.
About Our Work
We practice environmentally conscientious practices when working on projects -- utilizing downed trees and old stock wood that others may not consider using.
Our wood designs include a homage to George Nakashima, abstract expressionism and abstract illusionism. We excel in designing and creating reproductions of period and historic furniture and work closely with a furniture conservationist in using similar methods.
Bruce Schuettinger, lead furniture designer and furniture maker, is also a nationally known furniture and antiques conservator. He holds over 30 years of experience in woodworking and art.
The Art in Furniture woodworking studio is located in Historic New Market, Md., but we work with clients throughout the United States.
