Sculpted Wood Primitive Mid Century Style Japanese Noguchi Shou Sugi Ban Modern!

$225

This is an amazing modern art sculpted wood masterpiece by artist Shawn Tyler. It hearkens back to mid century modern style, very close in style and feel to Barbara Hepworth or Isamu Noguchi. This carved wood sculpture measures a generous 16 inches tall x 11 inches wide x 3.5 inches thick, or 41 cm by 30 cm by 9 cm thick. This wood was finished in the Japanese style or shou sugi ban, meaning it was carved into it's monumental form, charred and then the charred material was brushed off, leaving an amazing prominent growth ring pattern that looks and feels lovely. It also imparts a lovely old look, all the more as this wood was reclaimed from a large very weathered beam. Keep checking my page, I'll be posting more original artwork. I could make something similar for you, larger, smaller, almost any variation you would like, please contact me and lets talk!!

I have been doing sculpture in different media for around 20 years and focusing more on woodwork lately. My specialty is carved wood furniture, ceramic flowers and now I'm starting to make some unique lighting fixtures/chandeliers.

I have a bachelor's degree in Business and am widely traveled, and have lived overseas in many countries so I have seen many different forms of artwork worldwide.

I was previously known as an electronics technician so I am beginning to add lighting to some of my projects. I am attempting to create a niche with custom music stands and carved end tables. I am skilled at cabinetmaking but prefer to make sculptural furniture, things with curves are much easier for me to make somehow. A few of the artists and woodworkers I consider to be strong influences in my life include Sam Maloof, Wendell Castle and Isamu Noguchi.
