This is one rare and beautiful slab of Black Walnut. The wood was sustainably sourced from an urban reclaim in Frankfort, KY. The sheer size of this single slab of crotch cut Black Walnut is amazing! Add to that the colors, grain patterns and figuring found within this slab of wood, it is nothing short of spectacular! The wood has been planed flat, sanded smooth and finished in a satin poly mixture to protect the piece from moisture and daily usage. Out of all of the lumber I've acquired over the years, this is one that is difficult to let go. The beautiful top has been paired with a mid-century modern era 5 star aluminum base and painted in a flat black. The top can spin 360 degrees, or I can fix it if you desire it to not rotate. I personally love the spinning ability in this piece as it just glides smoothly in the direction that you push and would make just another luxury of not having to get up to retrieve something on the opposite side. If you are seeking a large coffee table with a naturally amazing slab of wood, a piece with contemporary and mid-century flair, composed of sustainable and reclaimed materials….this is it!!! The finished piece measures 41 1/2" L x 24 1/2" to 43 1/2" W x 14" H. The slab itself is a solid 2" thick. * Please note that you may also choose to replace the photographed 5 star aluminum base with four 16" raw steel hairpin legs should you desire for the same cost. Regardless of the base or leg style you select, this piece will have been setup, disassembled, professionally packaged and shipped fully insured with all hardware included and pilot holes for easy setup. Also, final shipping cost may vary depending upon your distance from Central Kentucky. If shipping is less than advertised, you'll be quickly refunded any overages. If shipping is slightly higher, you will be notified of remaining shipping balance prior to shipping. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks! *This exact piece has sold, but I have 2 more identical slabs off of the same log just waiting to be cleaned up. Contact me if interested.

Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.
Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
