This beautiful piece could be used as a bench or coffee table. It is made from a locally and sustainable-sourced slab of hickory and includes three graduated wooden inlays made from; maple, walnut and mahogany. The larger knots and cracks have been filled in with a dark tinted resin to make it more user-friendly. The live edge slab of hickory has been planed flat, sanded smooth and finished in an oil and satin poly combination for protection. The legs are composed of two 8" x 4" reclaimed pine cut offs that have also been planed flat, ebonized and coated in a thin layer of poly for protection. All in all, it is a long and narrow piece full of natural character, craftsmanship, color and love. Hickory is an extremely hard wood species so no worries about weight limits. The contrast of the natural edges (live edges) and straight-lined wooden legs makes for a nice juxtaposition that is sure to turn heads.

Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.
Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
