Dark White Oak Mantel Beam With Flowing Grains

This is one of several absolutely gorgeous white oak mantel beams that we recently pulled from a local barn. The deep wonderful color is completely natural. We sanded up the beam just right, then applied a hard wax oil finish. The barn was located between Norwood, Minnesota and Bongards, Minnesota. It was on what is known as a "Century Farm." This is a farm that has been in a family for over 100 years. In the picture, you can see an old colorized photo of the farm, including the barn. This support beam sat on top of posts that then supported the floor joist of an old, 1900s vintage barn. On these support beams were tags to identify which cow belonged in the particular stall. Some families named their cows, other just have them numbers. I laughed when I heard one local farmer call one of his beef cattle, "Hamburger." One section of this old barn had old log cabin timbers that had been re-used as "sleeper joists." So these beams were already on their second re-use, now going on their 3rd. This mantel is 6in Tall x 8in Deep x 72in Long. We just sold this exact beam -- "Ballet Betty." We have similar, raw beams available from the exact same barn. We could size one anywhere from 4ft to 10ft. We run $100/LF for finish mantels like this. We will be posting a new one or two within the next week or so.

We are a small mom-and-pop shop that works hands-on to craft tables, mantels, and countertops. We feel so very fortunate to reclaim old wood from the fading American landscape and to create wonderful pieces that can last generations. It is indeed a blessing. We work together with exceptionally talented blacksmiths who add true, hand-hammered ironwork to some already fantastic, well-crafted reclaimed wood pieces.
Farm Tables
Our artistry comes alive when we create farm tables, harvest tables, trestle tables, and even industrial base tables. This old reclaimed wood lends itself wonderfully to truly touchable beauty. With our tables, you just can’t help but touch 'em and run your hand across 'em.
Wood Countertops
As a returning trend, wood countertops are great. With flowing edges, unique colors, and interesting textures, our reclaimed wood countertops are even better than modern solid wood countertops.
Fireplace Mantels
These beam mantels are the real thing – many with ax marks from American settlers in the 1800s. There’s no “distressing” in our shop; it’s all original. We sand and finish to make each beam a thing of beauty. Our blacksmith partners can add a wonderful variety of accents to each piece.

It was great working with Kevin, so great I bought two mantels. He has the best selection of mantels on the internet. I also visited local artisans in GA but nobody had the beautiful finished product he provides. He was easy to work with and his website is the most thorough with multiple pics of each beam and they're listed by dimension. I just received the mantels and they were packaged nicely to make sure no damage to the edges or finish could happen while in transit. I can't wait to install them to complete my fireplaces. Pics to come.

For Mantel Shelf Made From Reclaimed White Oak With Nice Streaks

Kevin Coffel created a wonderful mantel for the renovation of my home. He promptly answered my first email and, given my initial requirements, suggested several options. His ideas helped me clarify my own project! From an initial White Oak with streaks we ended with a smooth Dark Walnut mantel, more appropriate for the modern style I wanted. Kevin kept the timeline and budget and delivered the mantel as promised. I will gladly work again with Kevin in the future for other house renovations. Thanks Kevin.
