I have forty years of experience in the woodworking. I build custom designed furniture from both new and reclaimed wood. My specialty is designing and building tables, buffets, bars, kitchen islands and similar pieces. I like to incorporate other craft items (and items provided by client ) in my work such as blacksmith hardware, old glass and stained glass. Once a proposal is agreed to I will provide both a detailed drawing and a stain or paint sample. As a project progresses I give updates and photos of the stage of completion. I have an excellent on time completion rate. Please see my reviews from past clients.

Although I include drawings after a proposal is agreed to if you would like a design prior to signing a proposal my design fee is 50.00 per hour. This fee is waved if later a proposal is agreed to.

John made a really cool table for me. I had the base and some antique wine crate ends. John was the first person on Custom Made to respond to my inquiry and he lives in Vienna so he won the job from me. The price was about what I expected. I popped over to his workshop with my table base and my box of crate ends. We laid out the ends and discussed the wood he would use to make the boarder. He had a lot of choices and told me how each wood would look. We did the "art" of laying out the crate ends together and agreed that it looked great. After I left he did some research and we discussed some specifics before he stated the job. I haven't picked up the piece yet but he sent photos and my mom and I are both really excited. He said that he got the top really flat, flatter than we expected since it was dependent on the crate ends that I supplied and they are over 40 years old with the date of the wine stamped on them. I hope he puts the table on his site to illustrate his work. I can't wait to get it tomorrow. He suggested that I wait a bit after he finished the table to allow the stain to fully dry before I picked it up. He wasn't in a huge hurry for me to take it off his hands.

Our new bench, built by John, has just arrived and we could not be happier. John built us a bench to our exact specifications based on a photograph of a historic bench that we provided. The craftsmanship is superb and we highly recommend him.

John worked really hard to build the table we wanted and was great through the process.
