Hand-Spun Copper Pendant Light With Vintage Mason Jar Globe

I love copper. It's kind of a sickness. I try and incorporate it into every project. But this project revolves around the warm, sophisticated look I love. Each 9 1/4 inch shade and canopy is hand spun in my shop by me . Then cleaned and polished. Next they are carefully wired and tested. A matte nickel socket is shown, but copper is also available. I provide 4 feet of vintage style cotton covered cloth wire, all hanging hardware, vintage style Edison bulb and wire nuts. So it's ready to hang. The Mason jars are sourced from local flea markets and antique stores, so the color will vary slightly based on what's available, but I generally only go for the jars that are super clean and have a blue tint. If you choose the table lamp style, the base is made from wood, in this case reclaimed heart pine from a Mill outside of Spartanburg, SC (we can talk about what kind of wood you'd like). The frame is made from mild steel, welded onto a recycled steel plate in a decorative diamond pattern and affixed to the wood with hand wrought copper nails. The really cool part is I make the nails myself from recycled copper. I use leftover bits from the copper shades, discarded cords, christmas light cords, power cords and whatever I can find that's copper, melt it down in a furnace and pour it into steel molds I made specifically for this purpose. After the copper cools, I heat it back up again and hand forge each nail to shape taking care to create a very specific Craftsman type nail head. It's bit of a time consuming process, but it ensures I have exactly what I want, exactly when I want it. I would be honored to make one for you and your family. I said one, but I'd be REALLY honored to put 4 or more of these babies in your house. Thanks for your consideration. Questions are always welcome.

Hi.

I'm Karl. I make things. Big things. Small things. Things out of wood. Things out of metal. Things out of wood and metal. Things out of molten copper. Things that appear in video and commercials. Things that my children will give to their children. And their children will sell at a garage sale 'cause that's what ungrateful great grandchildren do.

I have a workshop in historic Taylors Mill, South Carolina. That's where the name comes from. The Mill. My wife calls it Milly, my mistress. It's a fair criticism. I spend a lot of time there. Making things. And I've been doing it for over 35 years. Furniture. Cabinets. Reproductions. Restorations. Industrial. Mid Century Modern. Craftsman. Shaker. Traditional. I've lost track.

But one thing I know, styles change. Exceptional craftsmanship does not.

I love a challenge. I love hand made. I Love to design and go through the process of creating. But fair warning, I won't make anything you could expect to find at Pottery Barn or Renovation Hardware.

Not even for Milly. If she were real.

So send me a picture, a sketch, a thought, a gleam, a "kinda, sorta maybe it looks like this" and we can start.

I'm Karl. I make things. People love them. And you will too.
