Constructed Matter

The draw of design and creating new things has been a driving force within for some time now. I was living life trying to live a "normal" life and at night I would create. Last fall my wife and I decided to go to Swaziland, Africa to help out at care points for a two week trip. The only problem was that my vacation time was gone for the year. This meant not going or quitting. Through the support and push from the people around me, at the age of 30 I decided to make the jump. The plan was to form the business before the trip and line up builds to start upon return. Through creating and building at leisure, I had most of the tools of the trade at my disposal. So with our garage converted to a shop space the builds could commence. Besides the lack of vacation, there has always been this feeling of needing to do more and accomplish more. This feeling was a strong force in the decision to start Constructed Matter. Through the business I am not only allowed the freedom to create pieces for clients but I can take the time to give back. We leave again for Swaziland on Sept. 22, 2014. Constructed Matter as a business was able to donate 25 soccer balls for the children at the care points. This freedom to create and give back is truly what I think it's all about.

I think the greatest thing about what I get to do is seeing people's reactions to my work. Whether positive or negative, I love seeing how a piece can grab a persons emotions.
