The table is crafted from book-matched boards from a walnut tree that was harvested from an urban area. The wood has lot of movement and depth in the grain. The top and legs are separated by a 1/2" reveal. The legs are made from sanded mild steel tube. The sanding evens the color of the metal gives a satin finish but does not hide the hand crafting of the legs. The table top is finished with several coats of Danish oil finish and wax. The legs are sealed with a lacquer.

Objective:
The goal is to create unique furniture that is rooted in functionality, visually intriguing while displaying honesty of material and a bit of whimsy. To craft pieces that are viewed and used on multiple levels; work that melds with its surroundings while possessing the impact to stand apart. First appearances are of clean, simple objects. A closer look develops into layers of discovery about connections, tectonics, and the character of materials. Each element is continually edited throughout the process to insure every part contributes to the strength of the whole aesthetically, structurally, and conceptually.
Method:
Germinal to each design is an idea of the unique characteristics of materials, used to inspire the formation of the piece. If it is wood, steel, glass, textile or anything, the aim is to take advantage of the strengths and inherent beauty of each material. The act of construction is an ever-changing progression adapting to the challenges and opportunities inherent in manipulating raw materials into a final result.
Philosophy:
It is important to use materials in a sustainable manner. Selection of “green” products is equally important as how they are being used. Each piece of furniture is build with the idea it must stand the test of time to respect the materials from which it was formed.

For Walnut + Steel BookcaseWe had an awesome experience working with Ben. He worked with us on the design to accommodate our plans, kept us in the loop throughout the process, and delivered the project on time. This was our first custom-made experience and we couldn't have been more impressed. We love the finished product and enjoyed the process! Thanks Ben!
