Stained Glass Side Light Windows - Honu Serenade

$4,900

As part of a complete home remodel, the client wanted a pair of stained glass windows to flank her new sliding glass door in the master suite. She loves green Hawaiian sea turtles so that was a definite element in the design. Her husband is an avid deep sea diver and underwater photographer and is partial to Moorish idols and parrot fish so these sea creatures were also woven into the design. To create a sense of movement in the design, many of the creatures are clustered as though they are interacting, and each of the sea turtles is in a different mode of swimming: coasting, stoking, ascending, descending, etc. The client creates beautiful quilts and the color palette of silvery clear through the range of blues from pale to navy was inspired by one of her favorite quilts. The vertical flow of the water contrasts with the diagonal placement of the sea creatures. The Moorish idols and parrot fish are fused glass elements. This allowed me greater flexibility with the coloring as I could use powders that I fired onto the base glass. There is also some line detail added to the parrot fish that give them a bit of personality as they swim by. Each sidelight window is 72"x 22"

My name is Michelle Caron and I am the owner and artist at Caron Art Glass -now located in Salem, Oregon. I have been working with glass for over 25 years creating fused glass, stained glass and glass mosaic art work. My passion for glass germinated in the cathedrals of France, developed roots in Hawai`i and is now branching out in Oregon. Commissioning artwork is very rewarding. The result is a piece of art to which you have a uniquely personal connection. Your involvement in the process can range from a general idea of the design or purpose of the piece to an ongoing conversation as we develop a design that expresses your voice. Your satisfaction is always my primary goal. Finding the perfect gift is time well spent when you give a quality handmade item that brings joy to the person who receives it. In addition to commission work, I create ready-to-purchase boutique items each of which is unique. From fused glass sculptures that bring new energy into a space, fused glass table ware for that special occasion, to personal items for the office and library, or one of a kind jewelry. There is something for everyone - even those hard-to-buy-for friends and family.
