Salvaged Black Walnut Industrial Coffee Table
This extremely durable industrial coffee table is made from salvaged black walnut from an urban tree removal project. The walnut has an exceptional color and grain pattern and some bright white maple butterfly joints that provide a nice contrast and visual interest. The base is made from dark hot rolled steel, with sanded welds, and is finished with a matte industrial grade powder-coat. The non-toxic, health-counscious finish on the top is resistant to wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juices, milk and water etc. according to German Industrial DIN 68861 - 1C and complies EURO-NORM EN 71 (suitable for children's toys). This finish makes product care simple and easy. In most cases all that's needed is an occasional wipe-down with a soft cloth dampened with water. I specialize in reclaimed materials, healthy and environmentally friendly finishes, and run a full custom furniture shop and retail store in Oregon. I am a strong advocate of recycling in its many forms, and am proud to offer historic lumber products a second life as a work of art or furniture. I am involved with the materials I use from the very beginning, whether it be architectural salvage, or rescuing logs from pulp yards and milling them into raw lumber. From selection and processing to finished product and shipping, I am involved every step of the way. I appreciate both the process and the benefits of using salvaged materials and historical lumber to design and fabricate second-life products, while minimizing or negating resource consumption.
I can work with you from the earliest stages of design, through fabrication and delivery. Due to the age, color, grain, and source of my materials, each piece is unique and one of a kind, and is therefore customizable to the smallest detail. May 22, 2017One caveat: we have not yet picked up our table. However, we have been very happy with how this project has gone. We saw one of Jonathan's floating wood tables with a metal base on the Custom Made website and fell in love with it. After corresponding with Jonathan, we asked him to make the same table but with a different stain and different metal base. He worked closely with us throughout the process. He sent us two samples with the proposed stain and we made our selection from the two. When the project was complete, he sent us two photos with good shots of the top with the beautiful unique grain. We are picking the table up this week and are very excited. It looks exactly as we envisioned. This was a very good experience.

Workmanship is top notch. The wood is incredible. The pieces survived shipment from Oregon to the east coast with no damage. We highly recommend Jonathan for custom woodwork.
