This unusual coffee table was created from sustainably sourced, bookmatched slabs of walnut and 3/4" black pipe. I've had these sitting around the shop for a while and could not decide on making wall art or furniture out of them? I finally quit pondering, fashioned some old black pipe (it's actually low sheen black and gray-industrial looking patina) together and created this unique coffee table. It has dual tops as the slabs are fashioned to create a void through the center of the table. They each stand alone, side by side, but are connected via the piping (base). The photographs do not give the wood justice! This walnut is rich with chocolate, bronze and black colors and packed with smoke and chatoyance figuring. This is a pretty large piece that would need ample room to call home. The finished dimensions of this piece are 65 1/2" L x 22'"-30 3/4" W x 19"H. The slabs themselves are just under 1" thick. The wood is finished smooth in a satin oil and poly mixture to protect it from moisture, potato chip paws and average living room activities. Please contact me with any questions or concerns! This exact piece has sold. Please contact me to discuss a similar build.

Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.
Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
