This large live edge walnut coffee table is a solid mix of organic beauty, modern design and mid century flavor. The top is a gorgeous single slab of sustainably-sourced black walnut that was cut into two pieces. The slabs were then connected by placing strips of walnut horizontally along the bottom and encased with a long and narrow strip of maple throughout the void…all dyed black. The wood has been planed flat, sanded smooth and finished in a satin poly blend to protect against moisture and daily use. The top was then married to an upcycled Eames style 5 star aluminum base & painted a flat black to tie in the stitches placed throughout the void. It was a fun build incorporating something old to make something new and the natural top, linear art deco style stitching and mid century base combine to give an overall exquisite and modern looking piece. The base does swivel 360 degrees, which in my opinion only ups its level of coolness. The ability to spin your coffee table around makes life that much easier :). You'll never have a house guest visit and state they have the same coffee table…it's one of a kind! Measures 40 1/2" L x 27 1/2" to 34" W x 13 1/2" H. The top is a solid 1 5/8" thick.

Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.
Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
