Live Edge Dining Table- Modern Dining Table- Industrial Dining Table- Farm Table- Natural Edges

$4,500

This wooden dining table is composed of two highly figured live edge slabs of cherry and dual polished steel bases finished in a stainless look. The book matched slabs of cherry were sourced locally and jointed to intentionally show the exposed seam between the two pieces of wood. The center features a blackened area where a void was filled in with a black resin epoxy. The wood has a great deal of character and curl figuring which contains a chatoyance that makes the top appear to move when viewed at different angles (similar to sunlight reflected off of water). It is an extremely straight dining table for having natural edges, but still features many small interesting curvatures. The top has been flattened, sanded smooth and finished in a proprietary satin wood varnish that fully protects it from moisture, heat, and oily fingers/elbows. The steel bases were custom fabricated for this top and are made of 3" thick raw steel tubing. They have been ground to a faux stainless look and clear coated for protection. Combined, this dining table has a modern, rustic, industrial and organic flavor that would work in any interior setting. Finished piece measures: 76 1/8" L x 38" to 41 1/8" W x 30" H. The wood top is around 1 1/2" thick.

Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.

Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
