One of the coolest coffee tables ever! This coffee table is made from an oyster-shaped (round) live edge slab of Myrtle. It's a tree slice aka crosscut slab taken from a burl (abnormal growth). The burl growth is what provided such an unusual shape and almost cartoon-like natural curvatures along the edges. It's colors vary between tan, gold, beige, brown, purplish, gray and even has some black line spalting across the surface. There are a couple of ingrown bark inclusions on the surface that also add to its visual interest. The larger drying checks (cracks) and voids have been filled in with a tinted resin. The top has been kiln-dried, flattened, sanded smooth and finished in multiple coats of a satin poly. The film finish is durable enough to withstand your cup of hot coffee, hot plate of food, a sweating drink, having the remote control tossed on top of it and essentially anything else one would expect to do with a coffee table. It's not just eye candy for your living space, it's tough! The top has been fitted to four tapered and angled folded steel legs that have been sprayed in a black finish. The legs have circular feet beneath their straight-line verticals and felt pads beneath them to protect your flooring. This is an incredible live edge coffee table with an industrial, contemporary, modern, mid century, art deco and organic feel. Not only is it awesome, it's BIG! Finished piece measures max 42" x 38" x 16 1/2". The wooden slab top is a solid 2 1/2" thick. This piece is ready to ship! Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thanks!

Kentucky LiveEdge is operated by craftsman Drew Gahafer. He creates quality live edge furniture and unique applications for home and office.
Drew Gahafer is a self-taught woodworker, artist and furniture designer that got his start by upcycling furniture that was either thrown away, neglected, or purchased for mere pennies at yard sales or consignment shops. Plastics, glass, metals and wood were all materials that he was intrigued on refurbishing and building with. In 2008 he built his family home, which was a narrow shotgun style house. After weeks of housing the traditional square coffee table, he realized the dimensions took up 1/3 of the rooms space. In an effort to create something customized for his home space, he traveled back to his roots and brought back 2 narrow live edge slabs from a sawmill in Eastern Kentucky. By the time his first two pieces were near completion, his family and friends made offers on both pieces. He obliged and returned to the mountains for 5 live edge slabs of wood. Once those 5 were near completion, same story. To this day, his home lacks a coffee table.
