The Ice House Chair (24"x21"x30") is a contemporary take on Mid-Century design with the added ability to flat pack for easy shipping. It assembles in just ten minutes and is much like an erector set in the sense that it can be put together by referencing the easy to follow instructions. The joints are all mortise and tenon, and once assembled the chair is surprisingly robust. The Ice House Chair is constructed of ash for the stiles and poplar for the seat, back and stringers, and painted with a custom-mixed milk paint. The stiles are finished with an oil urethane. The Ice House Chair can be customized with ash, maple, oak and walnut for the stiles and any color of your choice for the seat, back and stringers.
Mahlon Huston Projects
Founded in 2011, Mahlon Huston Projects is a small, independent wood design studio with a supreme focus on making well-engineered, highly crafted furniture. At the end of the day our objective is simple: to produce outstanding designs engineered to last generations.
Mahlon received his Masters of Fine Arts from Alfred University in the spring of 2011. While in graduate school, his research as a sculptor and eventual thesis work focused on the way architecture produces a particular lexicon in the landscape. He surmised that this lexicon distinctly defines one’s identity, much in the way a dialect defines a region.
Upon completing graduate school, Mahlon turned his focus toward furniture design. His design practice is very much rooted in his graduate research. Mahlon chooses to produce pieces of furniture by which people want to be surrounded in order to buttress each individual’s sense of self. His designs are simultaneously serious, fun, reserved and playful.
