Custom Book Covers

Most covers here are leather Bible covers and covers for recovery literature, including the Big Book. They're hand-carved or hand-tooled, many in bison leather, and personalized with a name or initials. Covers are sized to a specific book, with a deep sleeve the book slides into, and some have carry handles. Makers also make covers for journals and other books on request.

What sets the price

A listing's price is usually a starting point. Half of the listings here are priced between about $100 and $210, with a median near $125, and one in ten is priced at $300 or more. Size, the leather, carving or tooling, personalization and handles set the price of a commission.

Before you start

• The book's exact size with the book closed: height, width and thickness, and its edition.
• The name, initials, verse or design you want, and where it should go.
• The leather and color.
• Handles or a strap.

Describe the cover with the materials, size, budget and date you have in mind, and makers who do this work send proposals. You pay a 50% deposit on the one you approve, see the finished cover by photos, video call or studio visit, and pay the balance once you approve it; Maker Marketplace holds that payment while it ships.
