Reclaimed Wood Tiny House Style Trailer (Mobile Showroom/ Office/ Studio/ Camper)

$30,000

This tiny home style trailer was built for Merrell shoe company in Rockford, Michigan. It was built to serve as a mobile marketing piece to tell their brand's story and showcase new product at event around the country. It is parked at Camp Navarro amongst the redwoods in Northern California in these pictures. Almost every finish is the trailer was reclaimed or reused. Ipe floors from a deck, maple walls from a barn, corrugated metal from an old barn, cedar trim and beveled siding off an old cottage, redwood ceiling from a farm. The raw natural materials help connect the trailer back to nature, which is Merrell's mission, to get people outside and in nature. Built in rails make hanging and swapping out marketing materials simple. Modular shelving the clips to the same rails can be easily moved or swapped out. The trailer is outfitted with build in storage and ample cabinet space, a small refrigerator keeps food and drinks cold for the team and guests. The entire trailer runs on solar power, lighting, refrigerator and an electric winch which raises and lowers a deck. The deck extends off the rear of the trailer to extend the floor space and create and indoor/outdoor space and entry to the trailer. It doubles as protection for the double glass french doors while in transit. The doors are new to include safety glass and to provide proper security. The windows are all repurposed. The size allows it to be easily towed and the height lets it get into most convention centers.

re.dwell, short for "reclaimed dwelling", is the combination of my architectural studies, passion for design, love of working with our hands, and desire to repurpose old materials. Each piece is unique, allowing the quality and character of the materials to help determine how it gets used. Our materials are sourced mainly from the West Michigan area. They come from old barns, homes, , factories, and other buildings that are slated to be demolished or are being renovated. We pull out as much material we can before it is destroyed, documenting each building when possible to provide a record and a story. The result is a unique new furniture piece full character and history.

My family and I currently call the vibrant city of Grand Rapids, Michigan home. I received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Architecture from Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana where I focused on sustainable design and alternative building methods.

I spent my summers helping a friend, a skilled carpenter and craftsman, with his small deconstruction business. We dismantled old blighted structures saving the materials from the landfill for resale and repurposing. Though I had been interested in furniture making for some time, it was here learning the trade from my friend I really found a passion for it. Designing and building furniture was a perfect outlet for my creativity, desire to work with my hands, and repurposing the materials we saved.
